This iconic Eighties-era Martini from London’s Dukes Resort, also referred to as the Direct Martini, is most well-known for its preparation. Creator and then-bar supervisor Salvatore Calabrese says the drink originated with journey author Stanton Delalpane, a patron of the bar who most popular his Martinis very chilly and really dry. The issue: Drinks stirred for a very long time grew to become too diluted for Delalpane’s tastes, whereas a shorter stirring time resulted in a Martini that wasn’t chilly sufficient. One evening Calabrese saved the gin and glassware within the freezer, and an answer was born.
