That is the Winter 2023 version of Shizuoka United S. It’s a mixture of each the Okay- and W-still, matured primarily in ex-bourbon, with just some wine casks. The mashbill consists of native Japanese barley but in addition peated and unpeated Scottish barley, in addition to some German beer malt. It seems to be much like the first version from early 2023, let’s see the way it compares.
Shizuoka United S – Winter 2023 (50,5%, OB 2023)
Nostril: a really balanced mixture of vivid fruits (apples and pears, lime, delicate banana) with juniper and mint, silver polish and a touch of sunflower oil. Some white flowers. Then additionally biscuity notes, a bit aniseed and recent dough.
Mouth: pretty oily. Now the natural and spicy notes come out extra, assume fennel seeds, extra juniper, white pepper and a touch of nutmeg. Then the fruitiness seems, on lemons (juice + peels) and grapefruits. Extra sunflower oil. Additionally these mild gin-like parts that I usually have in Shizuoka, with mild beer notes and a delicate earthiness in direction of the tip.
End: fairly lengthy, with extra lemons, oils and a delicate biscuity edge.
One other recent, fairly gentle and thoroughly layered Shizuoka, with vivid fruits and a few natural notes as the important thing belongings. Supposedly younger however already price testing. I discovered extra typical parts on this version, making it a bit extra to my liking than the earlier version. Now in 50 cl bottles apparently, making it extra inexpensive, examine Look after Craft Spirits as an example.
