WF’s Little Duos,
immediately glen Ord as soon as extra
|
We love Ord, we have now nice reminiscences of Ord, particularly visiting the maltings (the present ones, the drums, not the Saladin packing containers that had been dismantled in 1968 – WF shouldn’t be that previous). Effectively, we’ll solely have two immediately, we have to let the machine calm down a bit…

Glen Ord 14 yo 2009/2023 (49.2%, James Eadie, for the Ensign Ewart, refill hogshead, cask #310777, 152 bottles)
The Ensign Ewart is a well known little pub in Edinburgh, situated at 521-523 Lawnmarket on the Royal Mile. One would anticipate them to have chosen this little Ord with care… Color: white wine. Nostril: as bare a malt whisky as one might hope for, superbly composed of celery stalk, fennel, inexperienced apples, damp chalk, dill, pink grapefruit, and freshly harvested barley. Mouth: highly effective, nearly chopping, extra herbaceous and spicy on the palate (inexperienced pepper), with a wealthy texture and loads of small, semi-wild apples. Then come limoncello, sticks of rock, and honey pastilles, which gently spherical issues off. End: lengthy, a bit of waxier, with some beautiful bitter tones. Feedback: a advantageous little Highland beast. In any case, we love these Highland malts which are ‘not fairly absolutely rounded but’.

Glen Ord 10 yo 2012/2023 (60%, Animal Spirits, ‘When Days Are Chilly 1’, third Anniversary, barrel, cask 200260, 232 bottles)
Animal Spirits? I merely can not assist however consider Animal, the drummer from The Muppet Present, significantly his legendary efficiency in ‘Fever’ with Rita Moreno, which makes me chortle out loud each single time. Sure, like the remainder of the planet. However let’s get again to our sheep as we are saying in French—I imply, to this younger Ord… Color: chardonnay. Nostril: chardonnay. I’m not joking, it is a good younger Chablis on the nostril. Simply the correct quantity of vanilla, smooth oak, limestone, and buttercream, then a contact of yellow melon and barley sugar. With water: we’re veering in the direction of an IPA with a touch of washing powder. Mouth (neat): a bit of paraffin, barely soapy at first, however we all know that half will settle. In any other case, lemon zest and inexperienced apples. With water: oh sure, even when the slight soapiness stays (I used to be mistaken as soon as once more), the remaining is properly fruity, youthful, reasonably oily, lemony, and peppery. End: lengthy, with a faint tonic water be aware. Some roots and a little bit of modelling clay. Feedback: an excellent Ord, just a bit uncommon on the palate.
