Farm to Faculty Innovation Highlight: Welcome to the Meals Miles Challenge



Behind this venture is Alisha Corridor, Dodge County’s Faculty Diet Director. With the chance to interview Alisha, we bought an inside perspective of the relationships, advantages, and connections behind the Meals Miles Challenge, asking questions relating to the planning and course of that introduced this venture to life.    

In 2024, the place many cafeteria meals are heat-and-serve, Alisha observed there’s continuously a missed connection between college students’ understanding of the place their meals comes from and the appreciation of the onerous work that goes into placing meals on the desk, beginning with the farmers. Alisha determined to develop the Meals Miles Challenge, which provided college students a possibility to go to native farms. These college students got behind-the-scenes excursions of farm operations for them to study meals manufacturing and careers associated to agriculture and improve their publicity to regionally grown commodities.   

Alisha held an software course of for college students to use for this system in the event that they had been occupied with studying extra about agriculture and farm-to-table. Twenty-four college students utilized and had been a part of the Meals Miles Challenge – a college bus journey to native farms, experiencing how far the meals travels to get to their plate
