Bowmore 2013, Ledaig 2008, Moine 2012 (DeinWhisky)

DeinWhisky.de launched numerous store exclusives in 2024. We examine three releases from completely different bottlers: Bowmore 2013 (Douglas Laing), Ledaig 2008 (Malts of Scotland) and closely peated Moine 2012 (The Whisky Jury).

Bowmore 10 yo 2013 (58,4%, Douglas Laing Previous Specific for DeinWhisky.de 2024, refill barrel ref. 18397, 240 btl.)

Nostril: initially a smoky notice that’s louder than anticipated, with an underpinning of espresso and brown sugar. Mineral ashes, inexperienced pepper and newspaper ink. Then it develops fruity notes, like peach and tangerine. Mild salty touches and a touch of butter biscuits as effectively.

Mouth: oily, salty and peaty once more, with layers of mango and grilled pineapple beneath. Yellow apple and creamy guava. Firmly maritime, with a minty edge, which works effectively alongside the frivolously tropical fruits. Some pepper and salt, in addition to a gentle woody notice (aniseed).

End: lengthy and markedly salty. Nonetheless a faint trace of espresso beans, with oak and smoky notes.

An excellent younger Bowmore. The standard fruitiness of the outdated expressions is already current, however it’s nonetheless coupled to loads of smoke and oak spice. A clear bourbon cask works surprise for Bowmore. Too late to purchase this one, I consider.

Ledaig 2008 (56,2%, Malts of Scotland for DeinWhisky.de 2024, PX sherry hogshead, 281 btl.)

Nostril: balanced warming smoke once more, this time with a barely farmy contact, petrol and hints of automobile workshops. The gentle funk jogs my memory of some Jamaican rum too. Then a little bit of sheep wool, blood orange, pine needles and a touch of tobacco.

Mouth: highly effective smoke, with a coastal aspect and effectively balanced PX fruit. Hints of cassis and cherry sweet. Extra tobacco, sea breeze, candied citrus and a touch of honey. Then the metallic Ledaig contact comes out. Mild cocoa, brine and gentle antiseptics too.

End: lengthy, barely extra angular. Hints of burnt rubber and bacon, with bittersweet herbs.

One other sensible choice. Attention-grabbing funk on the nostril and a really civilised PX cask. Proper, additionally bought out. Rating: 88/100

Bunnahabhain Moine 2012 (56,8%, The Whisky Jury for DeinWhisky.de 2024, first-fill Oloroso cask #09003, 340 btl.)

Nostril: prompt pleasure. A lot of cigar bins with darkish chocolate notes and wonderful hints of outdated, dusty drawers. Then hints of cecina meat from Spain, charcoal, dried herbs and mint, numerous pipe tobacco and a few raisins. It’s a dry type of peat with a dry type of sherry, which works rather well. Only a few pink berries. In reality it jogs my memory of some (uncommon) closely sherried Port Ellens that we had within the period of Pe1.

Mouth: actually good once more. Heat campfire smoke (extra in direction of Lagavulin now), with walnuts, herbs and a refined salty edge. Barely extra sweetness now, raisins and raspberry jam. Some oily / maritime notes too, alongside Cola sweets, tobacco leaves and earthy hints. Just a bit espresso ultimately.

End: lengthy, heat and smoky, with black peppercorns, darkish caramel and a sweet-sour-salt mixture.

Total a reasonably wild Moine, with deep savoury smoke coupled to a couple salty and pickled notes. A stunning heat Islay character. With a few years within the bottle it can actually break the 90 level restrict. This one remains to be obtainable from DeinWhisky.de. Rating: 89/100
