The oldest Jameson whiskey thus far has simply been bottled for The Whisky Trade: Jameson 23 Yr Previous. It’s a follow-up to their earlier 22 year-old expression.

This well-aged whiskey consists primarily of pot nonetheless spirit of all three kinds from Midleton distillery: mild, medium, and heavy. Ageing occurred in a mixture of first-fill and refill bourbon, in addition to first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. All of those have been introduced collectively in 2018 and re-vatted into first-fill bourbon barrels.

Jameson 23 yo Small Batch (55,1%, OB for The Whisky Trade 2024, cask #108882-10885)

Nostril: a traditional mature pot nonetheless profile, with vanilla, orchard fruits and light-weight spice. Stewed pears and apples, with almond, shortbread and somewhat toffee. Then gentle hints of pecans and refined pepper, in addition to milk chocolate and candied ginger within the background.

Mouth: now the preliminary impression is that of a really outdated Scottish grain whisky, bringing heat waves of vanilla, creamy notes, some raisins and cooked white fruits. Mid-palate spices come out – ginger, nutmeg and light-weight tannins. Refined bitter drops. Then the nuttiness returns, with walnuts and uncooked espresso beans. A slight pickle too.

End: medium size, on stone fruits, white pepper and a natural edge.

A pleasant drop: some fruitiness, a spicy kick and an ideal steadiness. The sherry is rather less pronounced than I’d like, nevertheless it does enable the pot nonetheless character to face out. Irish whiskey lovers ought to have this on their watch record. Completely obtainable from The Whisky Trade.
