White Peak reveals the threerd era of Wire Works Essential Evil End
A celebration of provenance, innovation, high quality and friendship
from the guts of Derbyshire
Award-winning impartial Derbyshire distillery White Peak is releasing its third iteration of a distillery favorite limited-edition: Wire Works Essential Evil End.
This bottling is a daring expression of the distillery’s core values: provenance, heritage and flavour, delivered to life by a novel collaboration with neighbouring Thornbridge Brewery.
The whisky is a twin maturation of White Peak’s lightly-peated spirit, matured initially in ex-bourbon barrels, earlier than being completed in casks that beforehand held Thornbridge’s celebrated imperial stout, Essential Evil. Since 2022, the Distillery has launched two earlier sell-out editions of Essential Evil End. This 12 months’s launch, bottled once more at 51.3%, is an evolution of the earlier releases.
The STR (ex-red wine, shaved, toasted and recharred) ending casks started life with Wire Works whisky, went on to mature Essential Evil stout (winner of world beer awards 2024 world’s finest flavoured beer), after which returned to White Peak for one last transformation. The story of Essential Evil End is considered one of a novel Derbyshire relationship; a real journey of flavour, friendship and a shared dedication to high quality.
Max Vaughan, co-founder of White Peak, explains:
“We’ve had a robust relationship with Thornbridge since we started. We use their spent brewer’s yeast in all our fermentations – gathering it weekly has grow to be a part of our distilling routine. Essential Evil End brings the story full circle: whisky that begins life with Thornbridge yeast, and finishes its journey of their stout casks. It’s a mirrored image of our shared heritage and dedication to high quality.”
Tom Lindsey, White Peak’s whisky lead and model ambassador provides:
“We allowed this last end to take a seat for round eight months, leaving some headspace within the cask to encourage delicate oxidation. The result’s a splendidly advanced whisky with mellow, fruit-forward and savoury notes.”
This third launch of Essential End follows two earlier sibling successes – the inaugural 2022 version receiving Gold on the World World Whisky Masters.
This 12 months’s bottling will probably be out there from 25th July on the Distillery (and chosen UK retail companions together with Grasp of Malt and The Whisky Change) RRP: £69.
TASTING NOTES
Overview: Candy & savoury, with hazelnuts, freshly roasted espresso and darkish chocolate, dates, cranberry, and a mild wisp of smoke.
Nostril: Vanilla fudge, milk chocolate digestive biscuits, freshly roasted espresso, hazelnuts, flaked almonds, crème brûlée, baked apple pie, cassia, marzipan, sage, strawberry laces.
Palate: Cacao nibs, Black Forest gateaux, cracked black peppercorns, salted caramel, marmite on toast, butter pastry, Medjool dates, Seville orange marmalade, trace of spearmint, contemporary espresso, gentle white sweet.
End: Wealthy darkish chocolate, tobacco, murray mints, darkish cherries, roasted malt, contact of smoke.
