The third launch within the Rising Reserve sequence from Teeling is completed in Ruby Port casks. That was probably not a secret since we tried a preliminary model of all three in March 2023.
Teeling Rising Reserve No.3 21 yo (46%, OB 2024, Ruby Port end, 6000 btl.)
Nostril: wealthy and fruity, with loads of juicy plums, strawberries and cherry jam. Raisins and somewhat orange peel. Loads of wine gums, with the marginally aromatic fringe of a rosé wine. Then there’s a delicate natural contact, with a superb dose of cinnamon and caramel toffee, in addition to some vanilla.
Mouth: extra fruits. Purple apples, loads of grapes and berries. Only a trace of pink grapefruit. Honeyed notes too. Then it turns into drier and extra woody, on nutmeg, clove and cinnamon, with a rising winey aspect. Within the background it builds up black peppercorns, leafy notes and a touch of leather-based. A barely bitter natural layer as nicely.
End: lengthy, on darkish fruits, bittersweet wooden spice and orange peels.
Again in 2023 I believed the jammy sweetness was somewhat overdone, however now I’m choosing up extra dry components. As somebody who usually doesn’t like Port finishes, I admit that is fairly tasty. Now accessible from the distillery and several other retailers.
