Speymalt – Macallan 2005 (Gordon & MacPhail)

Speymalt – Macallan 2005 (Gordon & MacPhail)

Speymalt is a collection by Gordon & MacPhail through which they bottle casks of Macallan. Given the (relative) rarity of the distillery, the collection is just launched in chosen worldwide markets. Final yr alone, not less than ten single casks have been bottled on this collection. I’m cask #22606309 which needs to be solely out there from Wine4You (within the Belgian market not less than).

Speymalt – Macallan 19 yo 2005 (56,5%, Gordon & MacPhail 2024, first fill sherry hogshead #22606309, 177 btl.)

Nostril: the scent of a very good middle-aged Oloroso. Toffee and pipe tobacco, loads of raisins, with orange marmalade and hints of cigar containers. A refined juicy sourness and fruitcake notes, in addition to some minty and floral notes. Within the background there’s even a (good) trace of petrol or teak oil.

Mouth: fairly punchy, a bit sizzling even. Beginning on orange peels, raisins and black peppercorns. Then shifting to roasted chestnut, hazelnuts and a reasonably winey model of sherry (nearer to Madeira maybe). A agency natural aspect comes out, in addition to peppermint and eucalyptus. Later it returns to sandalwood and tobacco, with hints of black tea and a drop of cinchona.

End: lengthy, on peppered chocolate, marmalade and pipe tobacco.

Fairly a cultured Macallan, if maybe a bit ‘excessive stress’. Virtually an additional fortified Palo Cortado from a great cask. We see numerous very nice (un)disclosed Macallans nowadays and this one is actually within the high tier. Verify Wine4You for more information.
