There have been two Director’s Particular releases on the finish of 2024. The primary was the Imperial 34 Yr Previous and the opposite one this Springbank 25 Years from refill bourbon wooden.
Springbank 25 yo (55,5%, Single Malts of Scotland ‘Director’s Particular’ 2023, refill bourbon barrel, 284 btl.)
Nostril: pretty mild, with a dialed again funky aspect. Tangerine, lime, melon and yellow apple. Then damaged branches and delicate minty ashes. Almonds and toasted vanilla. Later hints of tobacco leaves and leather-based too, with outdated oak. Moderately delicate for this distillery, even contemplating the superior age.
Mouth: very oily, with natural notes (thyme, rosemary), natural honey and yellow fruits. Melons, lime and ripe pears, with a touch of apple syrup, getting barely tropical over time. Then mild wooden smoke, extra tobacco and a touch of crushed mint leaves. Hints of butter biscuit and toast, properly mixing in that fruity sweetness.
End: medium to lengthy, with warming oak spice, lingering smoked herbs, orange oil and delicate drying tobacco.
A barely completely different tackle Springbank, with far much less funk however extra fruitiness. No scarcity of variations nowadays, from these delicate bourbon examples to the extra intensely sherried ones (which I have a tendency to love a bit of extra nonetheless).
