The Cocktail School Podcast: The Golden Glove

At present, we’re specializing in a drink that would simply be described as a rum-based Margarita, although, technically, it’s a Daiquiri riff. It’s, after all, the Golden Glove.

A mixture of Jamaican rum, lime juice, Cointreau, and sugar, the cocktail first appeared on the menu at Havana’s El Floridita, crafted by none aside from Constante Ribalaigua Vert, the bar’s legendary proprietor and blender-in-chief. With only a handful of substances, it someway manages to really feel each basic and mysterious. And in our eyes, it’s a sleeper hit from a golden period that’s nicely price revisiting.

Bringing it into the twenty first century for us at present — albeit with a heavy dose of historic affect — is Pepper Stashek of New York’s devoted Daiquiri vacation spot, Bar Kabawa. It’s Jamaican rum, chilled metal, and blended gold. And it’s all proper right here on the “Cocktail School” podcast. Tune in for extra.
